Have you ever been in a situation that you just had to photograph, but you didn’t have your DSLR with you? Remind yourself: The best camera is the camera that’s with you!
I had an opportunity to hang out with a brand spankin’ new band called “This Patch of Sky.” Brand new as in, this was their FIRST practice. I knew most of the guys from previous work with “The Great Exploration” and so they welcomed me in to experience this new project. A quick introduction, the goal of the band is to produce instrumental stories through music. From what their first practice, I can say that this project has potential.
Anyway, with my trusty HTC Evo (android phone) I captured a hefty amount of photos using the applications “Retro Camera” and “Vignette” to create the color variances and effects. Although, the photos are mostly out of focus, and grainy, limiting myself by my cell phone has been a consistent learning experience, and in a lot of ways has revolutionized my photography! I have always been pretty good at framing photos, but in a lot of ways, I have been too focused on how to light the photograph, instead of how to use surrounding light in my photographs.
Lately I have put a lot of focus into adding to the already existing light to create visual impact. Which has been the subject of my workshop (and those to come). Adding to an already impactful photograph using strobes and other artificial light. Anyway, here are the rest of pics!
